The objective of this qualification is to benefit Learners by enabling them to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations and/or take on the role of first aider in the workplace.
Over a 3-day period, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, including: assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, heart attacks, choking, head and spinal injuries, fractures, anaphylaxis and more.
The QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) qualification contains 2 mandatory units with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 22 hours.
Qualification Unit 1
By the end of this unit, the Learner will:
- Recognise the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Be able to assess an incident
- Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty, a casualty who is choking and/or a casualty with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
Qualification Unit 2
By the end of this unit, the Learner will:
- Be able to conduct a secondary survey
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with:
- suspected chest injuries
- burns and scalds
- an eye injury
- sudden poisoning
- anaphylaxis
- suspected major illness
In order to complete this qualification, you will be assessed as part of this course. This includes six Practical and two Theory assessments as well as continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course. Learners must complete all assessments in both units successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification. The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals, is 10 weeks.
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of first aid situations.
• Learners must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training
• It is advised that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent
Learners will receive an OFQUAL accredited certificate on achieving this qualification. This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years.
