The NRS blended FAW course allows those who cannot commit to 3 days of training to obtain their certificate through a shorter route. Candidates will complete a series of eLearning modules prior to attending the classroom-based element which will be reduced to 2 days.
The objective of the qualification is to enable the Learner to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations and/or take on the role of emergency first aider in the workplace.
The QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) qualification contains 2 mandatory units.
Qualification Unit 1
By the end of this unit, the Learner will:
- Recognise the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Be able to assess an incident
- Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty, a casualty who is choking and/or a casualty with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
Qualification Unit 2
By the end of this unit, the Learner will:
- Be able to conduct a secondary survey
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with:
- suspected chest injuries
- burns and scalds
- an eye injury
- sudden poisoning
- anaphylaxis
- suspected major illness
In order to complete this qualification, you will be assessed as part of this course. This includes six Practical and two Theory assessments as well as continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course. Learners must complete all assessments in both units successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification. The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals, is 10 weeks.
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic first aid to people in a range of emergency first aid situations.
Learners will receive an OFQUAL accredited certificate on achieving this qualification. This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years.
